Variations on a theme
Nine 2009, Rob Marshall autor: michukI hate musicals. They are dumb, infantile, irrelevant and generally lack a proper plot which altogether means I usually fall asleep on them in a cinema.
The only musical that I enjoyed was Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd about the infamous barber slash murderer from London's Fleet Street. And this was the case mainly due to the fact that the film was more a black comedy interrupted by songs than a typical musical. And it starred Johnny Depp which is a single good reason to watch the crappiest movie ever (fortunately the actor chooses his roles carefully enough to avoid such failures).
Am I writing this review / blog post to sadistically abuse Rob Marshall's film -- the same Marshall whose Chicago impressed me so little? Negative. I'm writing it because the potential Oscar hit, that was almost universally panned by critics before even being nominated, made me feel ...
