About
Filmaster.com project has been started in 2008 by two Polish movie addicts Adam and Borys. Bored with the existing film websites they came up with the idea of reinventing the wheel and creating yet another one, with focus on community and personalization. And freedom.
Who are the authors of Filmaster?
I came up with the idea of creating Filmaster in March 2008, while looking for a website where I could discuss movies. I tried IMDB and couldn't stand its looks. I tried Flixter but that was just a big misunderstanding -- I wanted to discuss movies, not Angelina Jolie's latest dress. This made me think that there is a niche for a serious portal for movie fans who actually want to discuss good movies and who want to interact with other people like themselves. Here is how Filmaster came into existence (well, that, and 9 months of intensive coding, to be exact). Filmaster is personalized, community-driven, but moderated to filter out stupidity. If we manage to create a unique place to discuss movies in a friendly atmosphere I'll say that it was worth the efforts.
Borys is a software engineer in a London-based company Rule Financial. Except for the work and Filmaster he also manages a social news website OSnews.pl, and a couple of Linux websites: jakilinux.org, polishlinux.org, and LinuxNews.pl.
Find out more about Borys on his home page and if you wish, follow him on identi.ca or twitter microblogs.
Borys told me about Filmaster at the end of March 2008. His exact words were: "I've got a project for you. Learn django". So I did learn django :]. I'd like Filmaster to be a unique place for all movie freaks around the world.
Adam lives in Ostrołęka, Poland. He works on Filmaster daily. Except for that he also contributes to other projects and writes technical articles for websites and magazines.
And no, he does not like to brag about his achievements :) -- added by Borys
and... YOU!
Yes, you. You are the owner of this website as well. Check out Filmaster.org to learn more about the free nature of Filmaster from developer's perspective. Check out the page describing the license of content to understand that on Filmaster it is you who own your data, not us or anyone else. And contribute! We're counting on you. Only together we can make Filmaster really grow!
