Top level acting, mediocre film.

Swank's charisma makes the conflicted protagonist she portrays relatable, and highlights the viciousness of her world. Sarsgaard is an unpredictably explosive force, and has a disconcerting charm that's at odds with his actions later in the film. These characters come together powerfully, along with Sevigny's winsome object of desire, and furnish this film with a significant dramatic range. Seeing such universal desires expressed by such an outcast persona is both touching and profound.
