This is a brooding, distanced, muddled, yet human and, at its best, beautiful look at human life. It's nothing to do with teaching. Sami Gayle's performance as Erica was acted the best. Lucy Liu's bit where she loses her mind was touching. There are quite a few of those bits and bobs threwn around this film. And I think it's about reading between the lines. As Morrissey once sang: it takes guts to be gentle and kind.
