W filmie reżyser zawarł własną wizję wojny w Wietnamie i okrutnego procesu dehumanizacji człowieka, który sprawia, iż żołnierze zmieniaja się w żywe maszyny do zabijania. Bohaterowie filmu zostają wysłani na obóz wojskowy z piekła rodem, gdzie trafiają pod komendę pozbawionego ludzkich odruchów D.I., który traktuje ich gorzej niż psy.

Jakoś takoś nie doceniony film Kuricka. A ja się z tym nie zgadzam.
Najlepszy Kubrick, najlepszy Modine- fenomenalne formalnie ujęcie Wietnamu, z zaskakującą konstrukcją i doskonałą narracją. 13 000 problemów wojny, a na końcu Paint It Black.
Niby świetny, a nie złapałem klimatu -- może nastawiałem się na coś innego, bardziej spektakularnego...? Finałowa scena, która miała mnie zabić, zupełnie mnie nie obeszła. Może się nie znam?
Majstersztyk Kubricka o wojnie wietnamskiej.
Antywojenny majstersztyk. Wysmakowane widowisko, które podsumowuje wojnę w Wietnamie, ale przede wszystkim wojne w ogóle.
Wojnę, która zawsze jest bezsensem, największym złem tworzonym przez człowieka.
Kubrick znów wskazuje nam temat do dyskusji i rozważań. Sam przekazuje bardzo ważny i potrzebny głos w dyskusji o zasadności i sposobie prowadzenia wojny w Wietnamie. Zdecydowanie polecam.
Parafrazując słowa z filmu "najbardziej śmiertelną bronią jest człowiek". Choć raczej jest to ludzka głupota. Bezsens wojny w Wietnamie podkreślony bzdurnością wojskowego szkolenia, które i tak na wiele się na polu bitwy nie przydaje. Jedna z wielu krytycznych rozpraw z wojną w Wietnamie, tym razem w wydaniu mistrza Kubricka.
Mniej udany film Kubricka, ale daje radę.
Byłoby wyżej, ale film trochę nierówny. Pierwsza część filmu b. dobra, później ciut gorzej, dłużył się.
Powinien być chyba przerażający, i chwilami jest, ale z jakiegoś powodu cała ta gorzka satyra wypada mniej przekonująco niż w "Mechanicznej pomarańczy". Może dlatego, że główny bohater jest kpiarzem i mimowolnie przejęłam jego punkt widzenia. Obóz szkoleniowy jest karykaturalny a wojenna część filmu nieco fragmentaryczna. Rezultatem jest bardziej piekielna rockowa operetka niż poważny film, choć nie brak i dramatycznych, zapadających w pamięć scen.
A mnie zachwycił. Właśnie ten humor jest przerażający w jego filmach.
Z punktu widzenia laika, wiarygodna analiza "produkcji" żołnierzy, przez ich de-indywidualizację, oraz odczłowieczenie wroga.
Krótko: ryje beret. Zostaje w pamięci. Pokazuje co wojna robi z ludźmi.
