WALL-E (2008)

Original title: WALL·E

dir: Andrew Stanton

WALL-E is the last robot left on an Earth that has been overrun with garbage and all humans have fled to outer space. For 700 years he has continued to try and clean up the mess, but has developed some rather interesting human-like qualities. When a ship arrives with a sleek new type of robot, Wall-E thinks he's finally found a friend and stows away on the ship when it leaves.

Warm, clever, funny and visually stunning, WALL-E is yet more proof that the Disney-Pixar partnership is just about the best there is.

This movie is made for all ages. It combines romance, comedy and the future into one heart melting movie about two robots finding each other, in a world unknown to them both.

Devastatingly beautiful. This fable warns of the dangers of losing emotional connections with one another, and reminds us of the beauty of love and importance of companionship. It's satire is perfect, and can be understood by young and old alike. Touching on every level.

Simple love story that makes your heart warm regardless of age and culture background.

Once again, Pixar is doing their anthropomorphizing schtick, though with more restraint than usual. It is often moving and terribly cute, all the more so because they're generally doing things the way you would expect robots to. They're not talking like surfers or dropping pop culture references. Still, there were a few spots that were a bit tedious. Not many, but a few. At these points, however, you can eyeball the magnificent animation. There's some jaw-dropping stuff.

For a moment I thought I was watching the first-ever Pixar postnuke adventure... and that's just the beginning. This is a kid-friendly movie, yet at the same time it's informed by much of the top-grade sf of the past -- cinematic and literary alike. I thought Pixar had lost their touch; well, now they have it back

I've heard some RIDICULOUS high praise for this movie. "The Citizen Kane of animated features" comes to mind. It's good, but it 'aint all that. It almost goes without saying that the Earth portion is absolutely fantastic, but if you took the non-Earth portion and showed it out of context, it would seem like any other well done but generic computer animated flick. Well done, yes, but totally predictable and silly.

Nor the satire, neither the needless references that makes Pixar look like they're out of inspiration got me hooked up with the movie. What is left is wonderful animation, great camerawork, fair dose of comedy with the rouge robots gang and some sentimental moments.

The first third of this film is stunningly perfect. The rest of it is merely great.

A bit too Disney, but still one of my favourite Pixar movies. Should've won its Best Picture.

I adore Pixar movies, but this is probably my least favorite of them all. The animation was fantastic like all Pixar films, and it had a nice little message at the end.

Unusual animation, uncomparable with stuff like Shrek or Ice Age. Kind of a Space Odyssey made for 10 year old kids. For me -- too much Disney, too little Pixar. But still watchable. And how romantic :)

An instant classic. The movie's almost dialogue free first act is breath taking.
