Troll Hunter (2010) - André Øvredal Norwegian with subs

Data:

Plot - A trio of students set out to film a documentary about an secretive hunter who is thought to illegally kill bears. They soon find out that, he's actually hunting Trolls and they follow him on his hunts documenting events....

Thoughts - It's 'found footage' time again.

It's a pretty slow paced film, with the trolls in question showing sparsely for maximum effect. Though when we do see them, some of it looks stunning in terms of the size compared to the human protagonists. There's a lot of the standard running around confused with the camera, a lot of filming the main characters just talking and a lot of landscape shots. It helps that the landscape they're travelling in is really quite beautiful so the shots of fields and waterfalls were nice even after the nth time the director decided to show them.

Otto Jespersen was solid as the worn down and tired Troll Hunter. I have a feeling I'd find the students quite annoying if they were American/British but the language barrier of them talking in Norwegian somehow negated the bits where they did something incredibly stupid which I would be annoyed about if they were English. But I was sympathetic in the main towards them, apart from one moment which was utter stupidity. The 'scientific explanations' regarding the lores of Trolls was quite well done and the mock-documentary style in the main worked quite well.

Possibly could do with cutting down a bit and the satire is a bit obvious but overall I quite liked it.

7/10
