Anybody that is romantic enough would fall for the love story in Titanic. Many scenes with Rose and Jack are moving thanks to the strong emotional intimacy that is shown, the beautiful colors and photography, and the good (not exceptional) acting. Despite the good love story, this is a mediocre movie because of the absolute lack of subtlety in the personalities of the characters that interact. It is like painting a canvas with only pure saturated rainbow colors. Such simplistic hackneyed personalities appeal to the greater population and allow the filmmaker to reach the blockbuster status, but the movie then falls short on anything that makes a masterpiece. Finally I find it indecent and disrespectful to use the actual death of 1500 people as the basis of a blockbuster. If my voice could be heard, I would call for a pledge from movie producers worldwide to keep movies based on a tragic true story fully nonprofit. You can't earn millions and entertain the masses out of people's death!
