You haven't lived -- cinematically -- until you've seen
Kay Kendall. She was that rarity, a gorgeous
comedienne (like Carole Lombard). Her brief career
ended at the age of 33 when she died of leukemia.
In this bauble of a musical (Cole Porter), she swings,
sings, swigs and stops the show as a swank show
girl who marries into nobility and pens a memoir that might offend others. Gene Kelly is the romantic interest who dances energetically and George Cukor
dirs with panache. DP Robert Surtees. But it's Kay
you'll remember. The scintillating Kendall proves that
a diamond really is forever.
