Hertzfeldt's usual gore is on hold, but his usual sadism is in full swing. Ugh, again. Besides, whenever *I* meet a lady who knows that much about computers, I'm all over her. ROWR!
Ugh!
Ugh!
Be advised that this is not necessarily what you'd call a guy movie. It's more of a grown man's war movie -- all about how, yes, war is really exciting, but also seriously horrifying. Most of this material is not new, and I tired of one of the occupants of the tank asking to go pee every five minutes... but how great and glorious it is that there are still some movies that coax the viewer to search his soul rather than cheer the explosions
Much better than the TV series. Unfortunately, that isn't saying much. Moderately entertaining in an immature, bonehead sort of way. The action is copious -- after all, that's the raison d'etre of this sort of thing -- but it's all very gimmick-heavy and softpedaled, like everybody is firing rubber bullets. I know perfectly well they wanted it that way because the TV show was the same, and they didn't want to risk alienating the fan base. I still would have preferred flying chunks of flesh
Inception (Stain)
I enjoy this movie, but some of the ideas are rather half-baked for a Nolan picture. Why doesn't Cobb just shoot the gal when he knows damn well she isn't real? (Yeah, yeah, I know, but any real professional knows better than to act like a human being on the job.) If your subconscious can be "militarized", why stop at hitting the invaders with a few men with assault rifles and the occasional freight train? Why not attack with 8,000,000 men, a fleet of tanks, and a few nukes for good measure?
Silly
A sound, well-made movie that has grace. Not slow, just... calm. The people feel real, the drama is not hyped, and nobody's particularly in a hurry. Yet the scenes and the shots all feel like they're the right length. Allow me to stress that this isn't a "nice" movie, either... pain goes right along with the sweeter moments, as this is an honest movie, you understand. Another plus is the sincere appreciation of classical music
Huh?
Visconti later disowned this movie. I've never seen a director disown a better movie, though. I think this is a fine intellectual tragedy
Original but kinda silly, like a joke with an unsatisfying punchline
Totally not funny
Nice little anthology, although _The Cowboy and the Frenchman_ really stinks up the joint
Good gracious. An extra-disturbing rough draft of The Log Lady
Rich and strange. You can totally see visual motifs and themes that continue to develop in Lynch's later work -- the "Monty Python in Hell" aesthetic in _Eraserhead_, and, more generally, Lynch's embrace of the darkness in everyday life
One animation about the alphabet that's NOT going to get shown on "Sesame Street"
You would never think "De Niro + Charles Grodin = comedy gold", but this works remarkably well
