It is my quest to watch all of the Academy Award Best Picture recipients before the next ceremony.
It Happened One Night (1/82)
The first winner of the big five at the OSCARs (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Writing). Frank Capra’s (road) romantic comedy, although not the first, set the bench mark for the genre that is still being adhered to today. From the obvious (The Sure Thing) to the slightly more abstract (Sex Drive); all owe the film a debt of gratitude. And it’s really not hard to see why. The story is simple and predictable but is allowed to spark thanks to the snappy writing and the winning performances (Gable in particular).

Yes - Unfortunately I haven't seen any of the other nominees so it leaves me no choice but to agree with the Academy.
